“Our favourite!” The 2 hour Storms River Kayak & Lilo Adventure is our most popular adventure activity in Tsitsikamma National Park! If you are keen to explore deeper into the Storms River Gorge in Tsitsikamma, and experience the long, deep, quiet pools, then the Kayak and Lilo trip is for you!
We paddle from the Harbour next to the small beach across the ocean, then under the Suspension Bridge and up the beautiful Storms River Mouth. Please note that if the sea is rough, you have to hike to the Suspension Bridge (along a boardwalked trail), where we then hike along the river from the suspension bridge up to the jetty to where you then get on onto your kayaks. This 1km hike takes about 30 min
This is where the true Kayaking adventure begins – paddling the Storms River, the pinnacle of Tsitsikamma National Park. After waving to all the tourists photographing you from the Suspension Bridge, we continue the kayak trip up the Stormsriver. We paddle right into the bats cave and spend time gazing up at the magnificent and spectacular cliffs all around us, all from the comfort of our double sit-on-top kayaks.
At the low-water point we disembark our kayaks and we jump on our unique Lilo’s. (a Lilo is an inflatable mattress that we’ve had specially made for this trip). From here we walk and float over a short section of rocks and simply wade deeper up the river on the Lilo’s. What a stunning view it is, laying on a Lilo at water level, and gazing up to cliffs that touch the sky! At reaching a certain point, we simply turn our Lilo’s around and float back down river to our Kayaks!

Your amazing guides will run over a quick briefing and ensure all guests are confident with the quad bikes. From start to finish, the tour is filled with energy, fun and sights that are so beautiful you just want to stop and take it all in. The new route incorporates more technical sections but is still enjoyable and manageable for the newbie’s, moderate to experienced rider. This route takes you through the heart of the forest which is encompassed by sky-scraper trees and the indigenous forest. Like any great quad bike route, it has its fair share of muddy sections! You could enjoy this route time and time again as this scenery you don’t come across too often in your city life. It really gets you out of your comfort zone.

On first arrival at the premises, it was underwhelming. Staff was friendly, but there was noone to meet us. There are also no bathrooms on-site and we had to wait for one of the guides to return with a key to open for us at the nearby lodging premises. The guides were friendly, but the quadbikes seemed very run-down and not maintained well. We had to use small quads (suited for children) rather than bigger quads for adults and then also lift children on these smaller quads. These bikes were also a safety hazard as my child's shoe burnt on the hot (and frankly dangerous) exhaust pipe (even trying not to place it near it). The bikes handling was extremely poor and I had difficulty controlling my bike on the rough terrain. My child didn't have a safety harness and a helmet (although XS) that was way too big and heavy for her. One of the quadbikes in our group broke down mid-way with oil spewing out all the lady's leg and clothes. This was not compensated for. The lady was then given another bike that also broke down a few minutes further down the road with the chain comming lose. She was left alone in the woods as the leading guide neglected to stop and turn back. Only when arriving at the outlook point, did we notice she wasn't with us. This seemed very unprofessional. I also myself was a first-time driver and got lost while falling behind the main group. I had a small child with me and some consideration could've been given to us to slow down the group or at least have the guide wait for us to catch up. On two occassions, I couldn't see where the group went and got lost where the paths forked. This created unnecessary anxiety and spoiled the trip. It is also deemed very dangerous to drive on the open road with quadbikes (especially with children present). On our way back, it felt we had to cut the course short due to all the breakages and take the main road back. As much as I enjoyed the experience, I really would've liked for it to be more professional and make us feel safe and well-looked after. Most times I felt frustrated with the guide in front just speeding ahead and not waiting for the entire group to ensure all is well and everyone is safe. During the break at the lookout point, the bikes were left idling and was so loud we couldn't have conversation or alert the guide of any issues. Thank you for a lovely course through the woods. I would've enjoyed the view alot more if I wasn't so nervous trying to keep the bike on the road, worried of my child burning her feet and legs against the hot exhaust pipe and then having to struggle with a throttle that eventually gave me cramps in my hands and wrists. I will not be visiting this particular quadbike tours again. - Marjorie Smith
Well NOT GOOD AT ALL... 1) At first the one quad bike had problems running does not wanted to idle.... 2) The Quads both smoked a lott....and that tells a person the engines is in a worn out condition. 3) The bike gave problems and we had to stop getting it started ...then me and my wife switched quads...hope it will be better... 4) The route is very dusty and it was not enjoyable because a person drive just through the Forrest. 5) On our way back the quad died completely... 6) We left the quad bike in the Forrest and the quide gave me his quad and the quide ride back with my wife...so then this whole quad bike experience dropped to a Bad ride and I almost thought i need a " refund " * The Guide was friendly although I think he was also embarrassed by this situation. - Jacques Du Plooy
Absolutely loved this we was lucky the day we went it was just myself and my hubby with the guide and he was brilliant we stopped for pics and he filmed us but was just a great experience and the bikes were great loved it - suzanne Orr
Lovely experience, Great instructors. Thanks team - Steven Tsotetsi
The experience we had on the quad bikes was excellent. The bikes worked well and the tracks were taken on were beautiful through the pine forests and bush - Ian McClenaughan
